I don't live in Dubai but I have been there.
It is a great place in a Vegas of the Middle East kind of a way.

Best advice before going to Dubai, pack light. There will be anything you could possibly want in Dubai.

Congrats, it is a great place.

How free can I expect to feel there considering that it is a muslim country? How covered up is the average expatriate living in Dubai? Also u said to pack light. I've heard that you can find everything but how about the prices? What did you like most about it and what is most left to be desired? How well did you tolerate the heat? I read that it gets up to 120 degrees. And humid? Yeah! But everyone tells me that if I'm going to teach abroad in the mid east that Dubai is the best choice because of the pay, safety, and modern lifestyle.

You can expect to be very free all while walking around some women dressed in full formal muslim black and some women in low cut jeans and cropped T-shirt.
It is a VERY modern city. Dubai is mostly populated by expats and as such is a very international city. It is the city of commerce, everybody pretty much speaks english.

I am not sure what you mean by "covered"?

If you shop around you can get T-shirts for about US$2.00 etc. Either way only bring stuff for hot weather. Though if you are into dressing up, you cannot be over dressed in Dubai...fashion is pretty hot there.

I liked most the combination of very modern and very traditional the city has, the contrast between the spice sook (they have great frankinscence and all kind of other things like that) and the modern big malls with electronic muscic etc.

The name "Lone Wolf" actually stands pretty close to truth and I would rather be outdoors any day...I actually even love the desert, so what I liked the least was the fact that is is a city..entirely so..a big international city.

I was there in winter so the temperature was OK, but it does get quite hot...but again, city = air conditioning. I can't be considered a good judge because I find that 120F is fine, it forces people to slow down a bit, but it is fine...I haven't look at your profile so I do not know a thing about you, but if you have ever been to Death Valley, the temperature are pretty much the same...though in Dubai it is not as dry but there is a breeze. I would not not go to Dubai because of the temperature. Your body should get used to it. I am in Trinidad right now with high humidity level (the dry season doesn't seem to want to start this year) and it is nothing like Dubai anytime of year. Dubai is not a tropical city , it is humid but not terribly so..or at least I didn't think so.

If you are going to the Middle East for the first time then Dubai is the perfect starting point. It is modern, VERY modern, it is safe, a lot safer than a lot of US cities...I don't know about the pay...my line of work is completely unrelated to yours.

I don't know how teaching english works, and I don't know if you have to sign a contract but if you can sign a contract for 6 months or less I would not hesitate to go to Dubai UNLESS you want a real adventure. Dubai will feel exotic for the first while but will fairly quickly become familiar. If you want to feel like you are having the adventure of a life time this is not the place for you. On the other hand you can't have adventure and safe...Dubai errs on the side of "safe" from my perspective.....but on the other hand I ususally don't like to work somewhere where there isn't some type of risk, so keep this in mind when you read this post.
