Anyone have any experience working directly with Turkish employers?
Specifically, interview styles and salary negotiation...?

I lived in Turkey for a year in 1974. I wish I could remember it, but I was a toddler. I'll ask my folks this weekend and report back here. Stay tuned...

That's going to be a little tough to hide, since I'm coming with my husband!

Well, I'm a straight single girl who doesn't speak Turkish. Anyone else got any more info?

All I can tell you is that one of my references forwarded to me an exchange he'd had by email with my potential employer and then asked me not to tell the potential employer he'd had any contact with me about it because he thought that "in Turkey this would be seen as not so good."

I mainly wanted to know about salary negotiation, though, and how that usually works.

Is there any reason you can't post publicly? That's the beauty of a public forum, others who share the same questions may get the info as well.

End of story: I was able to 'negotiate' the classes I'd be teaching. The salary and the rest was set. They actually turned down another guy because he asked for more money at the last minute.

Oh, and the interview... creepy. They asked questions that would be illegal in the US. Marital status, sexual preference, and the like. I answered honestly, and they were like, 'Why did you TELL us that?!' And I was like, 'Well, why did you ASK?!'
                      They hired me anyway.
