Slightly OT: copy of birth certificate?

My dad is a naturalized American citizen. He was born in England. We're not on the best of terms, but I'd like to get a copy of his birth certificate, preferably without dealing with him directly (too much emotional b.s.). I'm considering pursuing the dual citizenship path so that I can get to Europe and stay there with a minimum of fuss.

Do you think a copy was filed at the place he got the naturalization certificate in the US? Does England have a system that would allow me to obtain a copy of it if I inquired through the correct, official channels? I have my birth certificate with his name on it. Might that be enough proof for a governing body to release a copy of his to me if I have his d.o.b. and all?

Thanks very much.

I've been talking to a friend of a friend who works at a consulate in another country, so I have most of it sorted out. Only thing I'm still curious about are the responsibilities of a dual citizen (US/UK). Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks so much!

I'm a dual citizen but since birth, not by choice. Was born to Brits in the US, was in England until about age 6 and then back again as an adult.

no responsibilities except that you have to always leave and enter the US with your US passport. If you are US bound, check in at the airport with your US passport. This is VERY important.

Oh and you can't pass on UK Citizenship to your kids unless you lived in Britain for a minimum of 5 years.

The US is really the country to worry about...they are strict about the whole thing. For example, the US won't let you serve in the military or state department if you become naturalised...I think I could serve but would have to get rid of my UK citizenship first (again, there's some distinction between national by birth and national by naturalisation...not sure how it works).
Feel free to message me if you want!

i am in the long process of becoming a dual citizen with Italy (my mother became a US citizen or 'naturalized' when I was 8 years old). I have all of the birth and marriage certificates collected and the last piece I need is a copy of her naturalization papers. She is a bit reticent to give it to me.. i'm not exactly sure why... but i'm hoping she'll change her mind as it's already been a long enough process and i'm hoping not to deal with yet another agency. You might want to check out this link: www.uscis.gov/portal/site...176543f6d1a/

I know it's a long one, but if you copy and paste, it does work. There's an email address, phone number and physical address listed here where you can ask questions.

        In boca al lupo!
